XMAS MAY BE POSPONED IN COLONIAL YAOUNDE DUE TO HARD TIMES
The colonial LRC government has added tax on every basic commodity and traders have retaliated by increasing prices for every commodity in return now City dwellers complain have been caught between the fire and the deep sea whether to celebrate Christmas or not as they cannot make ends meet. Undaunted has gathered that a few days to the celebration of Christmas , City dwellers are complaining that prices of basic commodities such as tomatoes, cooking oil, rice, chicken, etc have skyrocketed in the market; the price of everything has increased as this is the period.
For instance, A basket of tomatoes used to be 2500 FRS but now it is 5000 FRS at least, even for chicken you need to have 7000 FRS to get a good one when it used to be sold at 4000 frs – 5000frs on at ordinary moments. A litre of cooking oil rose from FCFA 1100 per litre to FCFA 1750 per litre. A litre of palm oil rose from FCFA 600 per litre to FCFA 1200 in an oil producing nation. Undaunted equally gathered that even though the colonial LRc Minister of Trade Luc Magloire Mbarga Atangana made assurances that there will be no shortages and availability of foodstuffs in the markets during this festive period, basic commodities are available however but for what use when the population cannot afford.
Workers complain that at first they used to benefit what was called the “13th month salary” just some sort of motivation to help them celebrate end of year festivities but today the opportunity has been scrapped because LRC cannot stand again on its feet financially thus making life more and more difficult for its workers as they hardly can make ends meet.
