IT WASN'T PAUL BIYA ’S DISGRACE ALONE, IT WAS ALL OF CAMEROUNS'
Did Biya know the Agenda of the AfricAmerica 2022 Summit?
We have been wondering what motivated Paul Biya of Cameroun to travel to Washington DC for the Africa America summit. His gestures at some of the events leave us with many questions. To be invited at an international meeting and introduced on stage to address fellow heads of State, diplomats and important American and international personalities, on international television, president Biya asked some embarrassing questions;
1. "Why am I the star?" Interpreted variously, some say he asked why he was featured on the dais alone. Others know that the man is boastful and really believed he was treated like a star. With this on mind, his statement begs the question what made Biya see himself as a star? As projected to stardom as he believed himself a real hero, he failed to shine on stage as he was caught in further gaffs and slips.
The subject for discussion was around new technologies, satellites and space exploration. If Biya knew this was going to be on the agenda, could he not have brought a competent member of his government to talk on it? This betrays the man's inflated ego, as he sees himself as the omniscient, omnipresent, and omnipotent star who must head all departments in his country. This might not be an exaggeration as President Biya has blurred all limits between powers in Cameroun.
As Head of the Executive, he arrogates to himself the powers of the legislative (Parliament and Senate); Biya is the Head of the Judiciary branch as the Chairman of the Higher Judicial Council. As the star that he believes himself to be, he is also supreme commander of the military.
2. Biya further asked, "...Who are all these people...? Many have been forced to ask the question whether Biya is blind. Of course, the man is not blind.
Right on stage, we could see a sharpeyed Biya reading part of his statement without using his lenses. It was after sometime that he pulled his reading lenses from his chest pocket to read. Biya clearly has no problem seeing because he rarely puts on glasses. Why did he therefore ask who the people were? It could be conjectured that Biya was under the influence of something only science might be able to explain in the future.
3. Biya pushes his bizarre questioning to ridiculous limits by asking, "...Are there important people here...? How ill prepared was Biya for the whole event? Some are quick to conclude that President Biya was possessed by a spirit, which was speaking through him.
At least, he could even look through the crowd to ascertain the caliber of the participants. He travelled to America with a powerful delegation comprising the Minister of Defence, Minister of External Relations and many more. He knew that all those personalities and their counterparts from other countries would be there. As the topic of the day was not unique to Cameroun, Presidents from other countries would have been sitting in the hall to listen and present their own statements.
4. The protocol officer might be blamed when an embarrassed President Biya asked, "...Am I speaking from here, now? And why?" The world looked on in bewilderment, wondering whether Camerounians were totally disconnected from reality.
Some people are quick to say that Paul Biya disgraced himself. No! I say it is not true. The disgrace was for all Camerounians. People have hijacked an entire nation; looting its wealth, sending ignorant youth to go and kill themselves while they make money, over the blood and pain of the people yet, no one is bold enough to say, enough is enough, in order to save the country. Today, why do some people have the courage to say that Paul Biya disgraced himself?
Fear and greed has turned Cameroonians into cheap and mean hypocrites. Who doesn't know that the chair of President has been vacant for years now? Who doesn't know that the constitution of Cameroun has a procedure to cater for such vacancies? Who doesn’t know that Cameroun doesn't have a legitimate government but a hold-up government which is refusing to give way so that legitimacy and legality can be instituted in Cameroon due to greed and selfishness. Everyone including international institutions are aware of this fact but they want to see the entire nation collapse under the ground before they start calling firefighters.
This is a wake-up call for everyone, with a stake in Cameroun not to remain indifferent. What the world discovered about Biya’s mental state reveals that Cameroun is a potential time bomb. If they are not careful with our selfishness and fearfulness, the people of Cameroun will regret severely. Hmm! Definitely a reasonable opinion worth looking into
