BAMENDA-WUM ROAD AWFUL
BAMENDA-WUM ROAD AWFUL
Bad Nature of Wum Road Stops Circulation
The first ever promise by the colonial President Paul Biya to the people of Southern Cameroons was in 1983. In his maiden visit to the Southern Cameroons and precisely in Bamenda, chief town of the Midland Region, the colonial President of La Republique du Cameroun, Paul Biya promised the construction of a ring road to link Six of the seven counties that make up the Savannah region and the Midland Region of Ambazonia. He did assure the peace loving people of Ambazonia that he will personally supervise the construction of this ring road.
This is definitely a very serious issue. When the colonial President of La Republique du Cameroun fails for over 30 years to deliver on the first major promise he made to a people, how can one be surprise if the people tend not to trust him again? The road linking Bamenda to Wum through Bafut is atrocious. The road is worsen with the heavy down pour lately. The road was passable during the dry season even though in a poor state. This stretch of road is part of the ring road promised the people of Southern Cameroons in 1983 by colonial President Paul Biya. From 1983 to 2022 is 39 years. That is 39 years that the people of Southern Cameroons have been waiting in vain. The ring road measures approximately 357 km long. Dividing this distance over the number of waiting years which is 39, therefore, 9.15 km was to be constructed each year. But that has never been the case.
At press time, the County of Wum is cut off from the headquarters of the Midland Region Bamenda. This Bamenda-Wum stretch of road is only supply route for basic commodities to Wum. With the stop of circulation as a result of the state of the road, this locality is deprived of the supply of basic goods and Medical evacuation equally from Wum to Bamenda is now made impossible. Importance Of Ring Road To Savannah and Midland Regions The importance of the Bamenda Ring Road Project cannot be overemphasized, when it is considered that the road links as many as six of the seven County Headquarters in the Savannah Region and the Midland Region. That is also why the issue of the Ring Road Project concerns the people of the entire Ambazonia. Also, as it is commonly asserted, where a road passes, development follows. So when the colonial government of Paul Biya fails to link a locality with a road, that is a good road, she thus logically block development from going to the area.
